LAUNDRY TABLE

[1-3]: LAUNDRY TABLE
[4]: Senufo woman (Gbato group) carrying wash table on her head with laundry basket secured between its four legs
[5]: Senufo woman (Gbato group) doing laundry with wash table nearby

From: Senufo culture, Cote d’Ivoire 🇨🇮

Source: “African Furniture & Household Objects” by Roy Sieber

Source notes: “Wood. 69.5 cm L. Senufo women use laundry tables of heavy, very hard wood that will not float when placed in shallow water. For each washing they are carried to the stream with the laundry bundle.”

Observations: Multi-purpose design through reorientation (a seat becomes a headrest with the same curve. Legs become columns to keep laundry within the stool), beauty through contrasting form (thick and thin), purpose determines material
