ARCHIVES ALIVE

Archives Alive is a workshop and conversation that explores digital tools for engaging with, conserving, and ultimately continuing material culture in more imaginative ways. Unlike literature or photographs, digital-first approaches create new perspectives on viewing and understanding the things around us that make up and have made up our cultures; we can zoom in and zoom out, resize and rotate, study and replicate...

The morning will start with Padà's own Folayemi Brown welcoming us and sharing the relevance of Padà to the workshop's theme of cultural conservation. Then, Steven Dey (3D heritage specialist; ThinkSee3D), will give a hands-on demo of photogrammetric capturing, then will join Omi Collective (Goethe grantee and Lagos-based designers & researchers; Nigerian Modernism-Drive), Kutlwano & Lele Ramphele (digital archivists & researchers; Dintho Objects) and Zoë Chinonso Ene (designer & researcher, Homenkà) in conversation, each sharing how they keep cultural archives alive through their practices.

All are welcome! The workshop invites individuals interested in learning about hands-on digital tools and also in expanding the discussion and practice of heritage conservation.
Complimentary snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Homenkà is happy to bring its first community event to life, hosted at the beautiful PadàLagos guesthouse, through a project partnership with the National Museum of Nigeria.
